The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi sits within the Al Qana waterfront district and, at 9,000 square metres, is the largest aquarium in the Middle East. Its tanks hold more than 46,000 marine animals spanning over 300 species, arranged across five themed zones that each recreate a different marine environment found around the world.
The Themed Zones
The route through the aquarium moves from UAE’s Natural Treasures, focused on marine life found in local waters, into the Red Sea Wreck zone, before continuing through the Atlantic Cave and the Frozen Ocean, home to cold-water species. The Bu Tinah Island zone closes the walk-through, named after the UAE’s own protected marine reserve. Along the way, more than 200 sharks and rays share tank space with jellyfish, sea dragons, zebra sharks and hammerhead sharks, alongside corals, birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles housed in the aquarium’s broader collection.
Optional Add-Ons
Visitors looking for a closer view can add the Beyond the Glass experience, a glass bridge suspended directly over the tanks, along with a Bu Tinah Dhow experience and scheduled fish feeding sessions, each bookable as an extra on top of general admission.
